La Citadelle, discovering the heritage and history of Saint-Tropez

Overlooking the village, the Citadel of Saint-Tropez was in the 17th century a high place of defense between Toulon and Antibes.
Strategic point, it is located at the entrance of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, on the heights of the village allowing it to see from afar the enemies arriving by the sea and getting too close to the city.

A place steeped in history and part of the heritage of Saint-Tropez. To visit the Citadel is to plunge back into the history books, with its keep, its 2 drawbridges, its cannons facing the sea and ready to fire! Climbing up to the Citadel, as the Tropezians say, is also to admire the roofs with their ancient Provençal tiles, look at the most beautiful luxury villas in Saint-Tropez and enjoy a panoramic sea view over the entire gulf as far as the volcanic massif of L'Esterel.

The Citadel of Saint-Tropez is home to the Tropezian Maritime History Museum. It is located within the Citadel and more precisely in the dungeon. The museum located in an unusual place tells the land and the history of Saint-Tropez. It was created with the help of local associations, curators, historians and villagers. It retraces the life of the Tropezians and the maritime trade between the Renaissance and the end of the 15th century.

The museum of the Citadel is to relive the epic of the fishermen of the small port of Saint-Tropez. 

So as you walk through the museum rooms you will learn about the history of Saint-Tropez's naval past, its torpedo factory and its cable factory, the history of fishing and its evolution, the species fished and the maritime wars.

An attractive and exciting museum where visitors are actors, especially with a curiosity cabinet where you can open doors by going from discovery to discovery, but also through the use of new technologies such as audio books.
A museum where even the youngest children marvel at model ships, objects such as long sights or even boxes of surgeons ready to impress. One room is dedicated to the emblematic figures of the history of Saint-Tropez, with magnificent busts such as that of the Bailiff of Suffren of Saint-Tropez, and that of General Allard.

The Citadel Museum is open : October 1 to March 31 from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm and from April 1 to September 30 from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm.

The Fight Night has become the unmissable event of Saint-Tropez, a superb fighting show where great Thai boxing and kick-boxing artists confront each other on a ring installed at the Citadelle.

A play is dedicated to the emblematic figures of the history of Saint-Tropez, with magnificent busts like that of Bailli de Suffren of Saint-Tropez, and that of General Allard. The Musée de la Citadelle is open from 1 October to 31 March from 10 am to 5.30 pm and from 1 April to 30 September from 10 am to 6.30 pm.
